Every month, over 200 Poles are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). On May 30th, World Multiple Sclerosis Day, it is important to learn more about this chronic disease that damages the nervous system and leads to various forms of disability.
Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that attacks the myelin sheath of nerves, disrupting nerve impulse transmission. Symptoms may include vision disturbances, fatigue, difficulties with concentration, and dizziness. The disease can present in three main forms: relapsing-remitting, primary progressive, and secondary progressive.
Although there is no cure for MS, appropriate treatment and specialist support can significantly improve patients’ quality of life.
